During the holy month of Ramadan, many individuals try to maintain their fitness routines while observing the daily fast. However, the long hours without food and water make it important to choose the right time for exercise to avoid exhaustion or dehydration.
Health experts explain that the best time to perform intense workouts during Ramadan is about one to two hours after iftar. At that time, the body has already received food and fluids, providing the energy needed to exercise safely and effectively.
This period is considered suitable for moderate to intense activities such as strength training, running, or gym workouts, since the body is better prepared to handle physical exertion and can easily replace lost fluids afterward.
For those who prefer exercising before iftar, light activities such as walking or stretching can be done shortly before the evening meal. This option allows the person to replenish fluids and energy immediately once the fast is broken.
Some people also choose to exercise before the pre-dawn meal. At that time, the body may still have energy stored from the evening meal, and individuals can hydrate and refuel after finishing their workout.
Experts also emphasize that workout intensity during Ramadan should generally be lower than usual. Light to moderate exercises are recommended, while intense training sessions during fasting hours should be avoided to reduce the risk of fatigue and dehydration.
Maintaining proper hydration between iftar and suhoor, along with getting enough sleep, is also essential to support physical activity and overall health during the fasting month.
