Recent scientific studies have raised concerns about the presence of microplastics in everyday foods and beverages, highlighting potential long-term health risks from continuous exposure.

One of the most surprising sources is chewing gum, which is often made from plastic-based compounds. Research shows that chewing gum can release hundreds of microplastic particles during chewing, particularly within the first few minutes.

Studies also found that salt, both sea and rock varieties, is widely contaminated with microplastics due to environmental pollution and processing methods. Plastic grinders and packaging may further increase contamination levels.

Additionally, microplastics have been detected in certain fruits and vegetables, such as apples and carrots, where particles can enter through soil and water absorption, reflecting the growing scale of environmental contamination.

Hot beverages like tea and coffee are another notable source, especially when prepared in plastic-lined paper cups or using plastic tools. High temperatures can accelerate the release of microplastic particles into drinks.

Although seafood has long been associated with microplastic exposure, some recent findings suggest that certain seafood products may contain lower levels than those found in hot beverages prepared with plastic materials.

Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to microplastics may be linked to hormonal disruptions and digestive issues, emphasizing the importance of reducing plastic use in food preparation whenever possible.
