Dar Al-Ifta: Refusing a Gift Without a Valid Reason Is Discouraged
Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta clarified that rejecting a gift without a valid reason goes against Islamic etiquette, emphasizing that accepting gifts strengthens love and unity.
Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta has stated that accepting gifts is a Sunnah that nurtures kindness and affection among people, adding that refusing a gift without a legitimate reason is discouraged and contrary to Islamic manners.
The clarification came in response to a question about whether it is permissible to decline a gift without justification. The Fatwa House explained that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged gift-giving and personally accepted gifts, as it builds brotherhood and removes ill feelings.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Respond to invitations and do not reject gifts.”
According to the majority of scholars, accepting gifts is recommended, while rejecting them without reason is discouraged unless the gift carries improper intentions or hidden motives. In such cases, refusal is permissible to avoid wrongdoing.
Dar Al-Ifta further advised that if someone declines a gift for a genuine reason, it is polite to explain why — to avoid offending the giver or causing emotional harm.
The statement concluded with the Prophet’s words:
“Give gifts to one another, for gifts increase love.”
Islam, Dar Al-Ifta reminded, views gift-giving as a noble act that strengthens hearts and fosters harmony in society.
Regular health screening is one of the most important steps to maintain good health and detect diseases early. The essential medical checkups for every age help in preventing complications and ensuring a healthier life.
Many people, after doing medical tests, receive their results and immediately start looking at numbers and unfamiliar terms like (High – Low – Normal) without fully understanding what they actually mean.
When dealing with medical services, many people come across different titles for doctors such as “Specialist” and “Consultant”, which can sometimes create confusion about what each title actually means and how they differ from each other.
Choosing the right time to visit a doctor is not a random decision. It can directly affect how quickly a condition is diagnosed and how effective the treatment will be. Many people delay visiting a doctor or go at the wrong time, which may lead to worsening symptoms or delayed care.
