GSK Reports Surge in Cancer and HIV Drug Sales in 2025
British drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline raises its 2025 profit forecast after strong growth in cancer and HIV treatments boosts global sales and investor confidence.
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the British pharmaceutical giant, announced an upward revision of its 2025 profit and sales forecast following exceptional growth in its cancer and HIV drug divisions, pushing its shares up by 4.3% to reach their highest level since May 2024.
Despite a 15% drop in U.S. sales of Shingrix, its shingles vaccine, the decline was offset by solid global demand, bringing total vaccine revenue to £2.68 billion for the quarter ending September 30 — exceeding analyst expectations of £2.55 billion.
Outgoing CEO Emma Walmsley, who will hand over leadership to Luke Mills early next year, stated that GSK is targeting annual revenue growth of 6–7% and an earnings-per-share increase of 10–12%, noting that forecasts account for the impact of new U.S. pharmaceutical tariffs.
Walmsley reaffirmed that vaccines remain a long-term strategic pillar of GSK’s business, even as the company faces regulatory challenges and reduced federal research funding in the United States.
Looking ahead, GSK aims to achieve over £40 billion in annual revenue by 2031, surpassing current analyst projections of around £34 billion. For the third quarter, GSK reported core earnings per share of 55 pence on total sales of £8.55 billion, both above market expectations.
Analysts view the company’s strong performance as a successful conclusion to Walmsley’s tenure, boosting investor confidence in GSK’s future, especially as it focuses on innovative oncology and immunology therapies and expansion in emerging markets to offset slower U.S. sales.
