Just Five Minutes of Daily Exercise Can Strengthen Heart Health: New Study

A recent study shows that only five minutes of exercise twice a day can significantly boost cardiovascular fitness and lower the risk of heart disease and heart attacks.

A new study revealed that performing just five minutes of exercise twice daily can give inactive people a significant improvement in heart health. Researchers emphasized that even short bursts of activity, as brief as five minutes, can enhance cardiovascular fitness (CRF), a key indicator of how efficiently the heart and lungs deliver oxygen to the muscles.

According to the Daily Mail, higher CRF is linked to a lower risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and early mortality. The research analyzed 11 studies including 414 inactive participants, with BMI ranging from normal to obese.

The findings showed that short exercises like stair climbing or brisk walking for a few minutes, two to three times per week, can make a significant difference for heart health. Stair climbing was the most common short exercise among adults, whether at home or using exercise equipment.

The study highlighted that incorporating short exercises into daily routines can improve cardiovascular health by 4.6–17%, reducing the risk of arterial and vascular diseases, making these quick and simple exercises an effective way to strengthen the heart without long workout sessions.
