Indian neurosurgeon Dr. Prashant Katakol warned that excessive sugar intake triggers a temporary dopamine surge, the neurotransmitter responsible for pleasure and reward. While this creates short-lived happiness and energy, the effect fades quickly, leaving the brain fatigued.

Repeated reliance on sugar reduces the brain’s sensitivity to dopamine, forcing individuals to consume more sugar to achieve the same feeling, disrupting the brain’s reward system.

Dr. Katakol explained through visual demonstrations that frequent sugar consumption alters brain chemistry over time, weakening natural pleasure responses and contributing to mood swings and mental exhaustion.

As sugar intake increases, the pancreas releases more insulin to regulate blood sugar levels. Over time, insulin resistance may develop, causing excess sugar to be stored as fat, particularly around the abdomen.
