Nose picking is a widespread habit, but it carries hidden health risks. Medical studies reveal that frequent insertion of fingers into the nostrils can spread germs, contribute to respiratory infections, and affect nasal health in the long term.

Dr. Ryan Fong, an ENT specialist, explained that repeated nose picking may weaken the nasal septum cartilage and reshape the side cartilage, creating a slight asymmetry in the nose without affecting the bones.

The habit can also cause nasal infections, nosebleeds, tissue irritation, and transfer germs to others, increasing the risk of disease. However, genetics and medical conditions remain the primary determinants of nose shape and size, not nose picking alone.
