Study Reveals: Cheese May Reduce the Risk of Dementia
Regular consumption of high-fat cheese may significantly reduce the risk of developing dementia.
A recent study found that regular intake of high-fat cheese could reduce the risk of dementia. Participants who consumed about 50 grams of cheese daily—roughly two slices of cheddar—had a 13% lower risk of developing dementia compared to those who ate less than 15 grams per day.
The study also reported a 29% reduced risk of vascular dementia with higher cheese consumption. Additionally, consuming 20 grams of high-fat cream daily—about 1.4 tablespoons—was linked to a 16% lower risk of dementia.
The research followed 27,670 Swedish adults over approximately 25 years, during which 3,208 participants developed dementia.
Researchers emphasized that the findings indicate an association, not a direct cause, suggesting that cheese consumption may reflect broader healthy dietary habits rather than being the sole protective factor.
