القضاء يصدر حكمًا بحبس ميدو شهرًا بعد سبّ الحكم الدولي محمود البنا عبر مواقع التواصل

The Cairo Economic Court revealed the reasoning behind its verdict against former footballer Ahmed Hossam "Mido", stating that his actions on social media constituted a clear violation of professional ethics and personal dignity, after posting offensive remarks against international referee Mahmoud El-Banna that quickly spread online.

The court emphasized that Mido had exceeded the limits of free expression, using his wide public influence to defame and damage the reputation of El-Banna. It clarified that legitimate criticism must remain objective, respectful, and free from personal attacks, especially when directed at public figures in sensitive roles like sports officiating.

According to the judgment, Mido’s posts reached a large audience, amplifying their negative impact on the referee’s reputation and creating widespread backlash in the sporting community, which undermined respect for justice and integrity in football.

The court further asserted that freedom of speech is protected by the constitution, but it does not permit defamation, insult, or harm to others’ dignity, confirming that any such behavior falls within the scope of criminal liability.

Consequently, the court sentenced Mido to one month in prison and a financial fine, serving as both a personal and general deterrent, while underlining that words carry responsibility, and social media must not be used as a tool for defamation or humiliation.

This ruling sends a strong message that the law applies equally to all, regardless of fame or status, reinforcing the principles of ethical conduct and accountability across Egypt’s sports and media sectors.
