Public Prosecution Refers Publisher of Indecent Video and His Assailants on the Mehwar Road to Criminal Court
Egypt’s Public Prosecution has referred the man who filmed and published an indecent video, along with the individuals who assaulted him on the Mehwar Road, to criminal trial, reaffirming that publishing private videos without consent violates both the law and societal values.
The Egyptian Public Prosecution announced the referral of the individual responsible for filming and circulating an indecent video online, as well as those who assaulted him on the Mehwar Road, to criminal court following a comprehensive investigation into the widely discussed incident.
According to the statement, the act of recording and sharing the video constitutes a clear breach of the Cybercrime Law, as it involves publishing immoral content and violating the privacy of others without consent.
Investigations revealed that the man filmed a video showing a young woman and another individual engaging in indecent behavior inside a vehicle on a public road, and later uploaded the footage to social media platforms.
The Prosecution also interrogated the suspects who attacked the man and vandalized his car. They admitted that after leaving a nightclub and consuming alcohol, they saw him filming one of them in an inappropriate situation. One of the group members stopped him, assaulted him, and damaged his vehicle.
Following the investigation, the Prosecution ordered the release of all defendants on bail and referred them to criminal court to face trial.
The Public Prosecution emphasized that publishing or sharing videos or images of individuals without their consent is a criminal offense, even if the footage contains evidence of another crime. The proper course of action, it stressed, is to report the matter through official legal channels rather than posting or distributing it online.
In its closing remarks, the Prosecution urged all citizens to act responsibly, respect privacy, and refrain from circulating sensitive content, as doing so protects social values and upholds the integrity of justice.
