Najwa El-Zeidi, the only survivor of the Nabrouh family tragedy, spoke publicly for the first time after being discharged from the emergency hospital. In a live broadcast on Facebook, she revealed harrowing details about the night her husband brutally murdered his three children.
“I’m in unbearable pain since that day,” Najwa said tearfully. “I keep having nightmares. I can’t believe the kids are gone—they were like my own children. Every night I dream that Essam is killing me again and again.”
She continued:
“I couldn’t stay with him anymore. Asking for divorce was my right. I had suffered enough. People shouldn’t blame me and say I caused it. Isn’t divorce something God allows? Things between us had reached a breaking point. I just couldn’t go on.”
Najwa explained she had married Essam for the sake of the children, not out of need:
“I didn’t need him financially. I married him for the kids, because they were orphans. My shop provided everything I needed. When I inherited from my father, I even paid him back the money he lent me. People shouldn’t judge me—they don’t know what I’ve been through.”
Investigations revealed that the perpetrator, Essam, had stabbed his wife multiple times after she insisted on divorce, before killing their three children—Mariam, Mohamed, and Moaz, and then taking his own life.
The incident shook the entire Egyptian community, reigniting calls for stronger measures against domestic violence and better protection for women and children at risk.
