A wave of grief spread across social media after the tragic death of TikToker Youssef Shalash, who was shot dead in Cairo’s Al-Matariya district. The shocking incident unfolded after his brother became entangled in a dispute with local drug dealers.

According to Youssef’s father, the events began three days before the shooting when Youssef’s brother, Alaa, confronted two known drug dealers, Assem and Ezz, for selling drugs beneath their grandmother’s home. The argument escalated into violence, with Alaa sustaining an injury to his hand from a bladed weapon.

“My son had nothing to do with it,” his father said in a live broadcast. “They ambushed him while he was sitting in the barbershop and shot him. Youssef was just a kind young man who made TikTok videos to make people smile.”

The barbershop owner, Hamada, recounted the horrifying moment:

“Youssef was waiting for his turn when Assem came in. We tried to calm him down, but he pulled out a gun and shot Youssef in front of everyone, then stole his phone and ran.”

Police forces quickly arrived at the scene and confirmed that the victim was TikToker Youssef Shalash, who died from a gunshot wound. His body was transferred to the morgue, and the suspects were arrested shortly afterward.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting was an act of revenge against Youssef’s brother. The Public Prosecution continues its inquiry into the case, which has stirred outrage across Egypt.
