Allah Forgives His Servants on Mondays and Thursdays — Except One Group. Who Are They?
According to Al-Azhar Global Center for Fatwa, Allah’s mercy descends every Monday and Thursday, yet one group is deprived of forgiveness until they reconcile.
The Al-Azhar Global Center for Electronic Fatwa explained that Allah Almighty opens the gates of Paradise every Monday and Thursday, granting forgiveness to every believer who does not associate partners with Him. However, one category of people is excluded from this divine mercy — those who hold grudges and harbor enmity in their hearts. To them, the angels are commanded: “Delay these two until they reconcile.”
In an authentic narration from Sahih Muslim, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The gates of Paradise are opened on Mondays and Thursdays, and every servant who does not associate anything with Allah is forgiven — except a man who has enmity between him and his brother...” reminding us how resentment can block one’s share of divine mercy.
Scholars clarified that deeds are presented to Allah not only weekly but also daily and yearly. The deeds of the night are raised before those of the day, weekly deeds are presented on Mondays and Thursdays, and yearly deeds during the month of Sha’ban — each occasion serving as a divine reminder for self-accountability and moral correction.
Spiritual scholar Al-Habib Ali Al-Jifri emphasized that the repeated presentation of deeds is a call for continuous self-observation and moral refinement. Meanwhile, Dr. Ayman Abu Omar, from Egypt’s Ministry of Awqaf, explained that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays, saying: “Deeds are presented to Allah on these days, and I love for my deeds to be presented while I am fasting.”
These blessed days are thus opportunities for repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation before one’s deeds are raised. As the Qur’an says:
“No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or kindness or reconciliation between people…” [Surah An-Nisa: 114]
Reconciliation between hearts is a noble act that earns Allah’s pleasure and restores harmony to the community. It is a divine message to cleanse our hearts, make peace, and seek forgiveness while the gates of mercy stand open.
