In response to a question about repeated and major sins, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Azim, Secretary of Fatwa at Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta, said that God’s mercy has no limits and that no sin is too great to be forgiven.
He warned against the whispers of Satan, who tries to make believers despair of God’s mercy, emphasizing that despair is a path toward disbelief because true faith means never losing hope in divine forgiveness.
Citing the Qur’anic verse, “Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins”, Dr. Abdel Azim explained that even those who have greatly sinned are invited to return to God, as His mercy encompasses all.
He also referred to the Prophet’s saying: “All the children of Adam sin, and the best of sinners are those who repent.” This, he said, shows that humans are bound to err, but the virtue lies in returning to God every time they fall.
He concluded: “Never let your sins distance you from God. Repent sincerely, for His door is open to every heart that seeks Him with truth and humility.”
