Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta has issued a stern warning against the growing act of spying on others or invading their privacy through digital means, describing it as a grave sin and a violation of both morality and law.

In an official statement, the religious institution explained that acts such as unauthorized filming, eavesdropping, or sharing private information constitute a severe breach of human dignity and are strictly prohibited in Islam.

Dr. Amr Al-Wardani, Secretary of Fatwa at Dar Al-Ifta, emphasized that tracking others’ faults is one of the most corrupting habits in society, as it spreads hatred and distrust among people. He added that such individuals often end up disgraced themselves, citing the Prophet Muhammad’s saying:
“Whoever seeks out the faults of his Muslim brother, Allah will seek out his faults, and if Allah seeks out his faults, He will expose him even in the heart of his home.”

Al-Wardani warned that those who indulge in such behavior face three major misfortunes:
1️⃣ They neglect self-improvement and become obsessed with others’ lives.
2️⃣ They lose blessings in life as they see corruption everywhere.
3️⃣ They trivialize their own sins and expose their secrets.

Dar Al-Ifta concluded by reminding the public that “whoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults on the Day of Judgment.” It urged everyone to repent, avoid violating others’ privacy, and uphold the values of respect, trust, and compassion within society.
