A source from the family of the late scholar Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashem, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars at Al-Azhar, clarified the truth behind circulating rumors about constructing a shrine or mausoleum for him following his death.

The source confirmed that these claims are unfounded, explaining that Dr. Hashem was buried in the family cemetery belonging to the Hashem family, located next to the Hashem Mosque and courtyard in Al-Sharqia Governorate.

He noted that the burial rooms are part of the mosque annex and are opened only for burial ceremonies before being sealed again, stressing that they are not shrines or tombs but designated family burial places that have existed for decades.

Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashem was laid to rest beside his grandfather, Sheikh Mohammed Abu Hashem, the founder of the Hashem Mosque and a respected religious figure in the region.

Dr. Hashem, a member of Al-Azhar’s Senior Scholars and former president of Al-Azhar University, passed away last Tuesday following a sudden health crisis that led to his hospitalization, leaving deep sorrow among his students, colleagues, and admirers.
