⚖️ The Ruling on the Wife’s Sister

Dar al-Ifta clarified that a wife’s sister is considered a temporarily prohibited marriage relationship. This means a man cannot marry her while he is married to her sister, but she is not a permanent mahram.

Therefore, as long as the marriage remains valid, the husband is not a mahram to his wife’s sister and is considered a non-mahram in Islamic law.

🕊️ When Does Marriage Become Permissible?

The sister becomes permissible for marriage only after the marital bond ends through divorce or death, and after the completion of the waiting period (iddah).

⚖️ Rules of Mahram Relationships

A mahram is someone with whom marriage is permanently forbidden due to blood relations, breastfeeding, or marital ties, forming clear boundaries in Islamic social life.

🧕 Wearing Niqab During Ihram

In a related ruling, Dar al-Ifta stated that a woman in ihram is not allowed to wear a niqab covering her face, but she may use a loose covering that does not touch the face directly.

If she violates this intentionally, she must offer expiation, choosing between fasting, charity, or sacrifice.
