On this day, the Qur’anic world recalls one of its great figures, Sheikh Ahmed Soliman Al-Saadani, whose name became closely associated with the authentic Egyptian school of Qur’anic recitation, reaching wide influence across the Arab world and beyond.

Early life and Qur’anic upbringing

Sheikh Ahmed Soliman Al-Saadani was born in 1903 in the village of Kafr Barash in Al-Sharqia Governorate. He grew up in a deeply religious environment and memorized the Holy Qur’an at an early age in his village kuttab.

Moving to Cairo and refining his talent

In the early 1930s, he moved to Cairo in pursuit of knowledge and development. He studied the science of Qur’anic recitation under prominent scholars, most notably Sheikh Al-Jarisi, who recognized his talent and recommended him to recite at Imam Al-Shaarani Mosque.

A breakthrough moment

His breakthrough came during the funeral ceremonies of national leader Saad Zaghloul, where his powerful recitation captured attention and marked the beginning of his widespread fame.

A voice that reached the world

In 1937, he joined Egyptian Radio, becoming one of its distinguished reciters. His recordings later reached international radio stations, including London, Moscow, New Delhi, and Berlin in the 1940s, helping spread Egyptian recitation globally.

Presence in the Holy Mosques and among great reciters

He had the honor of reciting in the Holy Mosques and lived among legendary reciters such as Sheikh Muhammad Refaat, Sheikh Ali Mahmoud, Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary, and other pioneers of the Egyptian recitation school.

A unique style and lasting influence

He was known for a distinctive style that combined deep spirituality with strong mastery of maqamat (melodic modes). His recitations during significant national events, especially after the 1967 war, had a profound emotional impact.

He also authored a book documenting the lives of major Qur’an reciters, contributing to preserving the history of Qur’anic recitation.

End of a remarkable journey

Sheikh Ahmed Soliman Al-Saadani passed away on April 30, 1976, after a 73-year journey dedicated to serving the Holy Qur’an through recitation, teaching, and influence.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Awqaf honors the pioneers of Qur’anic recitation who spread the light of the Qur’an and elevated Egypt’s recitation heritage worldwide.
