Fajr prayer is one of the most important obligatory prayers for Muslims. Allah mentioned it explicitly in the Qur’an: (Guard strictly the prayers and the middle prayer and stand before Allah with devotion), highlighting the importance of performing it on time.

Consequences of missing Fajr on time:

Resembling the hypocrites: Ibn Mas‘ud said, "I have not seen anyone who misses Fajr except a clear hypocrite." Umar ibn al-Khattab also remarked that missing a person at Fajr raised suspicion about them.

Woe and ruin: Allah said: (…they lost the prayer and followed desires, so they will meet ruin).

Influence of Satan: The Prophet ﷺ said that a man who sleeps past Fajr is “urinated upon by Satan in his ears,” illustrating the spiritual vulnerability.

Blessings missed by skipping Fajr:

Abundant sustenance and blessings in livelihood.

Peace of mind and spiritual clarity.

Great reward and forgiveness, especially in congregation.

Protection under Allah’s care.

Witness of angels and their supplication.

Reward equivalent to night prayer.

Glad tidings of Paradise.

Reward equivalent to Hajj and Umrah.

Protection from hypocrisy and divine punishment.

Accepted supplications.

Time of Fajr Prayer:
It begins at true dawn and ends at sunrise. Scholars differ on the best time; Hanafis prefer “Isfar” when light first appears, while the majority prefer “Ghlas” just before light.

Ruling on sleeping through Fajr:
Dr. Ali Gomaa clarified that unintentional oversleeping is excused and carries no sin, but habitual neglect of Fajr is not permissible.

Virtue of Fajr Prayer:
Fajr is a mandatory prayer for every adult Muslim, performed at dawn, symbolizing the breaking of darkness and arrival of light. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The two rak‘ahs of Fajr are better than the world and all it contains," and "Give glad tidings to those who walk in darkness to the mosques, they will have complete light on the Day of Judgment."
