The Forgery Case
Investigations revealed major irregularities as the Public Prosecution detained a young man and a security guard for impersonating the player and taking his institute exams on his behalf. A café owner was also arrested for his role in forging official documents belonging to the player.
The impersonator confessed to taking the exams for a financial reward, while security authorities continue reviewing CCTV footage and hearing witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
On Tuesday, the Criminal Court set December 30 as the date for announcing the verdict, with Ramadan Sobhi arriving in a prison transfer vehicle. Former goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy also attended to support him amid heavy security.
The Doping Case Timeline
The crisis dates back to March 2024 when the Egyptian FA received confirmation of a positive doping sample. In May 2024, the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) suspended the player before lifting the ban in July after committee review.
Sobhi returned to action and played his first match against Al Ahly. However, in September 2024, the international anti-doping body appealed the ruling, demanding a four-year suspension.
On November 26, 2025, CAS issued its final decision: a four-year ban, leaving the player out of action until 2029 unless he wins his appeal.
