"A Strong Launch for Egypt's National Children's Parliament with Wide Participation in Alexandria"
The Ministry of Youth launches the national phase of Egypt’s Children’s Parliament elections in Alexandria, with the participation of 700 young members to promote democratic awareness and leadership.
As part of the state’s commitment to raising generations capable of effective participation in public life, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, is preparing to launch the national phase of the Children’s Parliament elections. This comes following the successful completion of the local phase at the governorate level. The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the Administrative Prosecution Authority, the Ministry of Education, and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif — showcasing a model of institutional integration aimed at developing political and social awareness among youth.
Abou Qir Youth City Hosts the National Events
The national events are organized by the Central Administration for Civic Education through the General Administration of Youth and Children’s Parliament, and will be held at Abou Qir Youth City in Alexandria from August 11 to 14, 2025. Around 700 young participants, including locally elected members and officially nominated individuals, will take part in the program amid a patriotic and enthusiastic atmosphere that reflects their eagerness to experience real democratic practices.
A Unique Model for Preparing Future Leaders
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy highlighted that the Children’s Parliament represents one of the most important national initiatives aimed at building the capacities of young people and preparing them as future leaders. He noted that the ministry is committed to providing a comprehensive model of political empowerment by simulating real parliamentary environments where children can practice dialogue, decision-making, program development, and negotiation in a structured and educational setting.
He also emphasized the ministry’s commitment to digital transformation, as the election process will be conducted electronically in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and under full judicial supervision by the Administrative Prosecution Authority — ensuring transparency and integrity at every stage.
High Turnout in Local Elections
The earlier local elections witnessed an exceptional level of participation from youth, with a voter turnout of 65.61%, reflecting the new generation’s growing awareness and interest in public affairs. Parents played a vital supportive role, helping their children develop campaign programs, organize events, and connect with voters.
As a result of the local elections, 284 members were elected through the individual system, and another 284 through the list-based system. Additionally, 28 distinguished members were appointed based on nominations from Al-Azhar, the Egyptian Church, the Ministry of Education, and relevant national councils to ensure fair representation of all social groups, including children, women, and persons with disabilities.
Elections for Parliament Leadership and Committees
During the national event, elections will be held to select the leadership of the Children’s Parliament — including the Speaker, First Deputy, and Second Deputy — as well as heads, deputies, and secretaries of the 25 specialized committees. These committees address various societal topics such as health, education, environment, culture, sports, media, human rights, and more.
This phase is designed to enhance participants’ leadership skills, deepen their understanding of parliamentary work, and train them in collective decision-making and respectful dialogue.
Specialized Training Programs to Promote National Values
The event also features a series of workshops and awareness lectures delivered by parliamentary experts, governance specialists, and human development trainers. The sessions focus on communication skills, teamwork, time management, and effective public speaking.
The ministry is also implementing pre- and post-training impact assessment forms to measure participants’ understanding of key democratic principles, transparency, social responsibility, and anti-corruption.
A Strategic Step Toward Political Awareness for Future Generations
The Children’s Parliament of Egypt is one of the long-standing educational and developmental initiatives launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to instill civic and political values in children and adolescents within a safe and structured framework. The current edition of the elections builds on years of success and aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes youth empowerment from an early age.
