Egypt hosts the African Wrestling Championship 2026 with 28 nations and 500 athletes competing
The city of Alexandria is preparing to host one of Africa’s biggest sporting events, the African Wrestling Championship 2026 🤼♂️🇪🇬, showcasing Egypt’s strong organizational capabilities on the continental stage.
The tournament will run from April 25 to May 5, 2026, featuring Greco-Roman, freestyle, and women’s wrestling competitions across U17, U20, and senior categories, in addition to beach wrestling events 🏖️🔥.
So far, 27 African nations have confirmed participation, including Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Cameroon, and Kenya, ensuring a highly competitive championship 🌍🤼♀️.
A total of around 500 athletes and officials are expected to take part, making it one of the largest editions in the history of the competition 🏆🔥.
Egypt will field a strong delegation of 106 athletes across all age categories, aiming for strong performances on home soil 🇪🇬💪.
The event will feature international-standard mats provided by the Egyptian Wrestling Federation, with teams accommodated at Radisson Blu Hotel and matches held at Borg El Arab Indoor Hall 🏟️.
