🟥 Al Ahly vs Zamalek Match Crisis Reaches Appeals Committee
The Appeals Committee of the Egyptian Football Association held an important meeting with the head of the Competitions Committee to discuss the crisis surrounding the Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek, which was not played due to Al Ahly's withdrawal in protest against the lack of foreign referees for the match.
During the meeting, the three affected clubs—Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids—submitted official appeals against the decisions made by the League Association. The association had previously ruled that Al Ahly had forfeited the match, awarding the victory to Zamalek and imposing a financial penalty on Al Ahly.
The Appeals Committee requested that the League Association submit an official memorandum explaining the reasons behind its previous decisions, in preparation for reviewing and issuing a final ruling on the matter during an upcoming session scheduled to be held in the coming days.
It is worth noting that this crisis has sparked wide controversy within the Egyptian sports community and caused a major divide among fans regarding the legality of the League Association’s decisions and Al Ahly’s position on the withdrawal.
