Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, made several phone calls with Egyptian athletes currently in Libya to check on their well-being amid the ongoing security situation. Among these calls, he reached out to Captain Hossam El-Badry, the head coach of Al-Ahly Tripoli, to ensure the safety of him and the Egyptian coaching staff, as well as player Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim "Kahraba."
According to Mohamed El-Shazly, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, coordination has taken place with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant authorities to ensure the safe return of Egyptian athletes in Libya. El-Shazly added that some of these athletes are currently in Misrata, Libya, while others are in Tripoli.
The coaching staff in Misrata includes Captain Hossam El-Badry, Hadi Khashaba, Ahmed Ayoub, and Hadi El-Sayed, while in Tripoli, there are Ahmed Asmat, Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim "Kahraba," and Ahmed Shafiq. The coaching staff in Misrata is scheduled to arrive at Cairo International Airport at 11 PM today, Wednesday, while those in Tripoli will head to Misrata before traveling directly to Cairo.
These calls came after the security tensions in Tripoli, which led to armed clashes in some areas. These events raised concerns about the safety of Egyptian athletes, prompting the ministry to take swift action to ensure their safe return to Egypt.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhi emphasized that the safety of Egyptians abroad is a top priority for the Egyptian government. He also added that the ministry will continue to closely monitor the security situation to ensure the necessary support is provided to Egyptians abroad, especially given the exceptional circumstances in Libya.
