The management of Saudi club Al Hilal is considering withdrawing from the 2025 Saudi Super Cup, scheduled to take place in Hong Kong, China, from August 19 to 23. The tournament features four teams: Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, and Al-Qadsiah.
This consideration comes amid growing fatigue within the squad, following a demanding season that included participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, where Al Hilal reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Brazilian side Fluminense.
According to informed sources, a final decision has not yet been made. However, the prevailing sentiment within the club’s management leans toward giving the players a longer rest period to avoid recurring injuries and exhaustion, especially with early preparations already underway for the new season, which will see Al Hilal competing in several important domestic and Asian tournaments.
If Al Hilal’s withdrawal is confirmed, the organizing committee will nominate a replacement club. Current expectations suggest that Al Ahli Saudi FC is the leading candidate, given its strong position in the Roshn League standings and its large fan base, which would help boost the tournament's marketing appeal.
The tournament format includes two semifinal matches on August 19 and 20. The first will feature Al-Ittihad vs. Al-Nassr, while Al Hilal was initially set to face Al-Qadsiah in the second semifinal. The final is scheduled for August 23.
