Algeria Coach Praises Victory Over Equatorial Guinea, Prepares for DR Congo Clash
Algeria’s head coach Vladimir Petkovic expressed satisfaction after a 3-1 win over Equatorial Guinea in the final group stage match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting the team’s readiness for their upcoming game against DR Congo.
Algeria’s head coach Vladimir Petkovic praised his team following their 3-1 victory over Equatorial Guinea in the final round of Group E at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He emphasized that the players’ performance reflected strong discipline and mental and technical readiness.
Petkovic said in a post-match press conference: "It’s unfortunate we conceded a goal, but it was a great strike. I’m very pleased with my players and their behavior throughout the match. We now have a rest period and will resume preparations with renewed enthusiasm."
Regarding the upcoming match against DR Congo, he added: "I haven’t started thinking about that game yet. We will take a break first. They are a strong and balanced team, and we need to focus on our capabilities and deliver our best. We have 4-5 days to prepare, and I am confident the team will be ready."
Petkovic continued: "I expected my players might face some difficulties, but they exceeded my expectations. The win was a result of careful planning and tactical discipline, showing the team’s control and ability to create multiple chances, proving that this generation can face challenges with confidence and fighting spirit."
With this win, Algeria topped Group E with 9 points, while Equatorial Guinea finished last with no points.
Al-Ittihad Alexandria secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Zamalek in the fourth round of the Egyptian League Cup, moving up the group standings.
Sudanese midfielder Amir Abdullah impressed in his first continental appearance, proving that emerging talents can make a significant impact.
Zamalek will rely solely on youth players for their match against Al-Ittihad, rejecting requests to include first-team goalkeepers Awad or El-Mehdi.
