French star Antoine Griezmann, Atletico Madrid player, has announced that he will leave the Spanish club at the end of the current season, paving the way for a move to American side Orlando City starting next season, bringing an end to a long and successful journey with Los Rojiblancos.
The decision came after the player traveled to the United States immediately following the Madrid derby, with the approval of Atletico Madrid’s management to complete the transfer procedures.
Atletico Madrid had lost the derby against Real Madrid 3–2 at the Santiago Bernabéu, in a highly competitive La Liga clash.
Orlando City confirmed via its official account on X that Griezmann will join the club in July 2026, signing a contract running until the 2027–2028 season, with an option to extend until 2028–2029.
Atletico Madrid also issued an official statement confirming the departure of their historic star, noting that he will begin a new professional challenge in Major League Soccer after 10 seasons wearing the red and white shirt.
Griezmann is Atletico Madrid’s all-time top scorer with 211 goals in 488 appearances since joining in July 2014 from Real Sociedad, leaving behind a legacy that will remain deeply engraved in the club’s history.
