Zamalek Exit IHF Super Globe After Heavy Defeat to Barcelona
Zamalek’s handball team suffered a heavy 47-25 defeat to Spanish giants FC Barcelona in the second round of the group stage at the 18th edition of the IHF Super Globe (Club World Championship), currently being hosted in Egypt at "The Club Hall" in the New Administrative Capital, from September 26 to October 2, 2025.

Defeat Ends Zamalek’s Hopes
With this result, Zamalek remain on two points after a narrow win over Brazilian side Taubaté, officially exiting the competition and missing out on a spot in the semi-finals.
Despite the high hopes that accompanied their strong start, the wide gap in experience and quality between the two sides ultimately led to a crushing loss.

Barcelona’s Total Dominance
Barcelona demonstrated their superiority from the opening minutes, controlling the tempo of the game through fluid teamwork and quick offensive transitions. Egyptian star Seif El-Deraa, a former Zamalek player, stood out with an impressive performance.
Zamalek’s defense struggled to cope, and the Spanish side racked up 47 goals, underlining the defensive challenges faced by the Egyptian team throughout the match.

Zamalek’s Journey in the Tournament

Round 1: Zamalek claimed a hard-fought 26-24 win over Taubaté in a match that showcased the team's fighting spirit.

Round 2: The team was overwhelmed by Barcelona, falling 47-25, and thus concluded their participation in the tournament.

Despite the early exit, many considered Zamalek’s performance respectable, given the vast technical and physical gap between African and European clubs.

Egyptian Giants in Round One
On the tournament’s opening day, Egyptian fans celebrated a double victory for the country's top clubs:

Al Ahly thrashed Australia’s Sydney Uni 41-14.

Zamalek edged past Taubaté in a close contest.

However, Round Two saw mixed fortunes, with Al Ahly maintaining their momentum while Zamalek stumbled against the European powerhouse.

Global Stars Light Up the Tournament
This year's edition of the Super Globe is one of the strongest in terms of participating talent, featuring some of the biggest names in global handball.
Leading the pack are several Egyptian internationals currently plying their trade in Europe:

Veszprém (Hungary): Ali Zein, Yehia El-Deraa, Ahmed Adel, and Ahmed Hesham "Dodo".

Barcelona: Seif El-Deraa, who has quickly made a mark with the Spanish club.

Tournament Schedule

September 30: Semi-finals and placement matches

October 2: Final and third-place match

"Egypt Welcomes the World"
The tournament is being held under the slogan "Egypt Welcomes the World... From the Continents to the New Capital", in an initiative to reinforce Egypt’s position as a prime destination for hosting global sporting events.
