🇮🇷 Sardar Azmoun faces legal threat ahead of the World Cup
Semi-official Iranian news agencies reported on Friday that the judiciary has threatened to seize the properties of Iranian football star Sardar Azmoun, aged 31 👀⚽.
According to Fars News Agency, Azmoun is on a list of 16 people considered government critics, whose assets in Golestan Province are targeted for confiscation 🏠❌.
Azmoun has represented Iran in the last two World Cups and ranks second in the national team’s all-time scoring chart with 57 goals in 91 matches 🇮🇷🔥.
Reports indicate he was not selected this month for friendly matches ahead of the World Cup, and his participation in the upcoming tournament appears unlikely, following a social media post that angered Iranian authorities amid tensions with the US and Israel ⚡📵.
Currently, Azmoun plays for Shabab Al Ahli in Dubai, and previously played for European clubs including Roma, Bayer Leverkusen, and Zenit Saint Petersburg 🌍⚽.
Without Azmoun, Iran lost 2-1 to Nigeria on Friday in a match held behind closed doors in Antalya, Turkey 🇮🇷🆚🇳🇬.
Iran will compete in the 2026 World Cup in a group including New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt, with matches scheduled in Inglewood and Seattle, USA 🇺🇸🏟️.
