Al Ahly Appoints Brazilian Coach Paulo Melagres to Lead Women’s Volleyball Team
Al Ahly Club has finalized the signing of Brazilian coach Paulo Melagres to take charge of the women’s volleyball team ahead of the 2025–2026 season. He replaces Ibrahim Fakhr El-Din, in a move aimed at strengthening the team’s local and continental ambitions.
Hany Meselhy Declines Offer
The decision came after Hany Meselhy, head coach of Egypt’s U19 national team, declined Al Ahly’s offer due to his ongoing contract with Wadi Degla, prompting the club to seek international expertise.
Farewell to Fakhr El-Din Despite Titles
Despite guiding the team to win the domestic league and Super Cup titles last season, Fakhr El-Din’s tenure ended after losing the African Championship final to Zamalek in Nigeria. The club opted to thank him and pursue a new direction.
Sports Activity Committee Prepares for New Season
Khaled Al-Awadhi, Al Ahly’s head of sports activity, is set to meet with team officials to review squad needs, including new signings and departures, within the constraints set by the Egyptian Volleyball Federation, which allows two external signings only for the top two clubs.
New Season Calendar
The women’s volleyball league will kick off on October 6, 2025, and conclude on May 3, 2026, while the men’s league starts on October 20 and ends on May 17, 2026, in alignment with the international volleyball calendar.
Registration and Transfers
The federation has announced the player registration window for both men and women’s teams from August 10 to September 11, 2025. It also stressed that no transfers will be recognized before the release of the official transfer guidelines bulletin for Premier A, B, and youth categories.
