⚽ Damascus Basketball Championship Organizers Reveal Details of Zamalek Crisis
The controversy surrounding Zamalek’s participation in the Damascus International Basketball Championship has escalated after the tournament’s organizing company criticized the club’s handling of the travel crisis just hours before the competition was scheduled to begin.
Nasib Qabbani, the director of the company organizing the tournament, expressed his frustration with the situation, saying that Zamalek holds a special place in their hearts but that the club’s recent handling of the situation was, in his view, unprofessional.
🔥 Organizers: We Covered Zamalek’s Travel and Accommodation Costs
Qabbani explained that the tournament organizers had covered all travel expenses for the Zamalek basketball delegation, in addition to arranging accommodation as part of preparations for the club’s participation in the international tournament.
He said that attempts to contact Zamalek officials did not receive the expected response. According to his account, the organizers eventually received a message saying that a response would come within a few minutes, before the club later confirmed that it would not participate.
The organizing company expressed its disappointment because preparations had been made to receive Zamalek as one of the participating teams based on the previous agreement.
📢 Zamalek Facing a Two-Year Tournament Ban
Nasib Qabbani also revealed that the organizers are considering a strong disciplinary decision against Zamalek by preventing the club from participating in the tournament for the next two editions.
He explained that the proposed decision comes as a result of the way the situation was handled during the travel crisis.
Despite emphasizing Zamalek’s special status, Qabbani said the events of the past few hours had caused significant frustration among the organizers.
The company is also preparing an official statement that is expected to provide further details about the crisis, including the communication between both sides and the circumstances surrounding Zamalek’s withdrawal.
🏆 Zamalek Basketball Team’s Travel Crisis
The dispute comes after Zamalek’s men’s first basketball team decided not to travel to Syria to participate in the Damascus International Basketball Championship, which was scheduled to begin on October 8.
The tournament is returning after an absence of 18 years, making the current edition particularly significant for the organizers and participating teams.
Zamalek had been preparing to travel to Syria, but an issue involving the completion of official documents reportedly disrupted the team’s travel arrangements shortly before departure.
⭐ Graduation Certificate Delays Player’s Travel
According to the available details, one Zamalek player was unable to travel because he had not obtained the required graduation certificate needed to complete his official travel documents.
After the players gathered in preparation for heading to the airport, the team members returned home as the travel procedures were not completed in time.
The development left the tournament organizers facing an unexpected situation, particularly because extensive preparations had been made for the event and Zamalek was expected to participate under the previous agreement.
⚡ Damascus Tournament Returns After 18 Years
The Damascus International Basketball Championship carries particular significance in its current edition because the tournament is returning after an absence of approximately 18 years.
The organizing committee had completed its preparations ahead of the competition, but the sudden issue involving Zamalek’s absence created significant disruption just 24 hours before the tournament was due to begin.
The upcoming official statement from the organizing company is expected to provide more information about the communication with Zamalek, the reasons behind the team’s failure to travel, and the final decision regarding the club’s participation in future editions.
Do you think Zamalek’s decision not to travel was understandable because of the paperwork issue, or should the club have handled its communication with the organizers differently? Share your opinion.
