🇪🇬 Three Matches Await Egypt During the International Break
Egypt’s national football team are preparing for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with the Pharaohs drawn in Group B alongside Angola, Malawi and South Sudan.
Egypt will play three matches during the current international window, which runs from September 21 to October 6, beginning with Angola on September 25 at Cairo Stadium at 10:00 PM.
The Pharaohs will then travel to face South Sudan in Juba on September 29 at 3:00 PM, before finishing the scheduled matches against South Africa on October 4 at Cairo Stadium.
📋 Nine Overseas Players in Egypt’s Squad
Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan announced a 24-player squad, including 15 locally based players and nine overseas-based players.
The squad was later changed after Hamdy Fathy, the Al-Wakrah player, was ruled out through injury, with team director Ibrahim Hassan calling up Omar Fayed of Frosinone as his replacement.
The overseas-based players are:
Mohamed Salah, Hamza Abdelkarim, Omar Marmoush, Ibrahim Adel, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Hossam Abdelmaguid, Haitham Hassan, Omar Fayed and Rami Rabia.
⭐ Mohamed Salah
Mohamed Salah is enjoying an impressive spell with Turkish club Trabzonspor after joining the team during the summer transfer window following his departure from Liverpool.
Salah wears the No. 10 shirt at Trabzonspor and currently leads the Turkish league scoring chart with seven goals, one ahead of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.
The Egyptian star has made eight appearances since joining Trabzonspor, including six Turkish league games and two Europa League qualifying matches. He has started every game except the opening fixture against Kasimpasa.
Salah scored twice against Basaksehir and added goals against Amed Sportif and Genclerbirligi before completing the run with a hat-trick against Galatasaray.
🔥 Omar Marmoush
Omar Marmoush missed the beginning of Manchester City’s Premier League campaign before completing a late summer move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Marmoush played 37 minutes as a substitute for Manchester City in the Community Shield, making his only appearance for the club before leaving.
Since joining Tottenham, Marmoush has earned a starting role and began four matches against Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Everton and Aston Villa.
The Egyptian forward has yet to score or provide an assist for Tottenham.
🔵 Hamza Abdelkarim
Hamza Abdelkarim attracted attention during Barcelona’s preseason preparations after finishing as the team’s top scorer with four goals out of the club’s 14 goals during the buildup.
The 18-year-old made a four-minute appearance against Rayo Vallecano in the third round of La Liga and is also included in Barcelona’s squads for both La Liga and the Champions League.
🇩🇰 Ibrahim Adel
Ibrahim Adel has been a regular starter for Danish side Nordsjaelland since the beginning of the season.
The Egyptian winger helped his team progress through the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds by providing two assists, while he has also made nine appearances in the Danish league, scoring once and assisting once.
Nordsjaelland currently sit fourth in the league with 17 points, seven behind leaders Copenhagen.
🛡️ Mohamed Abdelmonem
Mohamed Abdelmonem has returned to action with French club Nice after missing the entire previous season because of a cruciate ligament injury.
The Egyptian defender started the campaign as a substitute against Lorient in the opening round before becoming a starter in the following four matches against Paris FC, Le Mans, Auxerre and Lille.
Abdelmonem delivered a strong performance against Lille, a match in which Nice secured their first league victory of the season, and he received the highest rating among his team’s players according to the source.
🇧🇬 Hossam Abdelmaguid
Hossam Abdelmaguid joined Bulgarian club Ludogorets at the beginning of August from Zamalek, meaning he missed the opening part of his new team’s league campaign.
The Egyptian defender made a six-minute substitute appearance against Slavia Sofia on his debut before starting the following three matches.
Ludogorets had already been eliminated from the Conference League qualifying rounds before Abdelmaguid joined the squad.
🍀 Haitham Hassan
Haitham Hassan moved to Scottish side Celtic from Spanish club Real Oviedo, beginning a new chapter in his European career.
The Egyptian winger did not feature in the second leg against Austrian side LASK in the Champions League qualifying round, but played seven minutes in the first leg.
Hassan has started four matches for Celtic and provided one assist. He also came off the bench for 19 minutes in Celtic’s most recent league match against Rangers, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.
He has made nine appearances in total, registering one assist and playing 431 minutes.
🇮🇹 Omar Fayed
Omar Fayed joined Italian club Frosinone from Turkish side Fenerbahce and has so far made one substitute appearance in the Coppa Italia.
Frosinone were eliminated by Sassuolo on penalties after a 5-4 shootout, with Fayed successfully converting his penalty.
🟣 Rami Rabia
Rami Rabia has been a regular starter for UAE club Al Ain, making five appearances in the UAE league in addition to one AFC Champions League Elite match.
Rabia scored one goal and provided one assist against Al Nassr in the third round of the UAE league and also started Al Ain’s impressive 4-0 victory over Saudi club Al Nassr in the AFC Champions League.
The Egyptian defender has helped Al Ain keep three clean sheets, while his team share the top of the UAE league with Al Jazira on 13 points each.
📢 Egypt’s Overseas Players Face a New Test
With the national-team camp approaching, Egypt’s overseas-based players enter an important period in terms of fitness and match readiness, particularly with several of them holding regular roles at their clubs.
Egyptian supporters will hope that the form displayed by the overseas contingent before the camp can translate into strong performances during the qualifiers on the road to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
