Egyptian Ambassador in Chile Checks on Cycling Team and Visits Ibtisam Zayed after Injury
Maher El-Mahdy, Egyptian Ambassador to Chile, visited the Egyptian national cycling team to check on the health of champion Ibtisam Zayed, who suffered a serious injury during her participation in the ongoing Track Cycling World Championship in Chile, featuring over 70 countries.
🚴 Ambassador’s Visit
The Egyptian ambassador checked on all team members ahead of tomorrow’s finals, where Mahmoud Bahr and Shahd Said will compete—Bahr in the elimination race final and Said in the keirin final.
The coaching staff decided to withdraw Ibtisam Zayed from further competition to ensure her safety after her injury in the early rounds. The head of the World Championship medical committee recommended a full week of rest before gradually returning to training, stressing the importance of not risking her participation.

Ibtisam fell hard on the track during the race, prompting concern and immediate transport by ambulance to the hospital, where she underwent urgent surgery.

Mohamed Ibrahim, head coach of Egypt’s cycling team, confirmed high morale among the team, praising the strong support from Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, Ambassador Maher El-Mahdy, and Ayman Ali Hassan, President of the Egyptian Cycling Federation.
