The Egyptian Basketball Federation has announced the official system and regulations for the 2026-27 Men's Super League season, with 16 teams taking part based on the results of the Premier Division and the Under-16 linked league.
The new season will feature two groups, followed by a qualification system for the quarterfinals and a series of matches determining the final standings and relegation places.
2026-27 Egyptian Basketball Super League Format
The 16 participating teams will be divided into two groups, with eight teams in each group under a zigzag allocation system based on the Under-16 linked league standings.
Group Allocation
The first group will feature teams ranked:
1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 13th, and 16th.
The second group will feature teams ranked:
2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 14th, and 15th.
This format is designed to distribute teams according to their linked-league rankings during the preliminary stage.
Preliminary Round System

Matches will begin at 6:00 PM.
A winning team will receive two points, while the losing team will receive one point.
After the preliminary round is completed, teams will be ranked within their respective groups according to the points and competition regulations.
Quarterfinal Qualification System
After the preliminary round, the teams finishing first through fourth in each group will advance to compete for positions from first to eighth.
The teams finishing fifth through eighth in both groups will move into the competition for positions from ninth to 16th.
Quarterfinal Matches
The quarterfinals will be played in a best-of-three series.
The higher-ranked team will have home-court advantage in the first game and the third game if a deciding match is required.
A team must win two games to secure qualification for the next round.
Path to the Super League Title
The winners of the quarterfinal series will advance to the semifinals and continue their pursuit of the Super League title and the top four positions.
The teams eliminated in the quarterfinals will join the teams competing for positions ninth through 16th in placement matches and the relegation battle.
Six Tiebreaker Criteria
The Egyptian Basketball Federation has established six progressive criteria for resolving ties between teams with the same number of points.
The process begins with the head-to-head results between the tied teams before moving through the remaining criteria.
Points difference for and against is also among the criteria used to determine the final standings.
If the tie remains after all specified criteria have been exhausted, the ranking will ultimately be decided by a draw.
Medical Requirements for Super League Matches
The Egyptian Basketball Federation has stressed that all clubs must provide a fully equipped ambulance in accordance with the approved medical code at the venue.
The requirement applies to all matches throughout the competition to ensure appropriate medical coverage for players, coaching staffs, and administrative teams.
