The Egyptian rowing delegation is preparing for a new global challenge, with the team scheduled to leave Cairo on August 21 for the Dutch capital Amsterdam to participate in the 2026 World Rowing Championships, which will take place from August 24 to August 30. 🚣♂️🌍
The Egyptian participation carries significant importance, particularly as it combines Olympic ambitions with international competition against some of the world’s leading rowing athletes, representing another step in the development of the sport and the preparation of Egyptian champions for upcoming major events.
The delegation includes Paralympic rowing athlete Malak Abdelrahman, along with Paralympic national team head coach Saher Refaat, while coach Walid Mahmoud Abdelmonem will also accompany the delegation. National team rower Mohamed Alaa Qouta, who currently trains and competes professionally in Europe, will join the Egyptian delegation in Amsterdam. 🇪🇬⭐
🚣♂️ Mohamed Alaa Qouta Faces a Major Global Challenge
Mohamed Alaa Qouta will compete in the men’s lightweight single sculls, in a race featuring 18 athletes from different countries around the world, placing the Egyptian rower in a highly competitive international test.
Qouta’s participation is part of a long-term preparation program aimed at reaching the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, following his previous appearance for Egypt at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the double sculls event.
The athlete has continued developing his level through international competitions after moving his training camp to Austria and competing in several international races during the current season. He achieved notable results, including first place in the lightweight single sculls at the Croatian Open, fourth place in the heavyweight single sculls at the Bled event in Slovenia and fifth place in the third World Cup stage in Switzerland. 🏆🔥
His schedule does not end with the Amsterdam World Championships, as he is also preparing to continue his season by competing at the Mediterranean Games in Italy, followed by the African Championships in Tunisia, providing him with a demanding competitive program designed to increase his experience and strengthen his readiness for major international events.

In Paralympic rowing, Egyptian champion Malak Abdelrahman Ghanem will make her first appearance at the World Championships, competing in the PR1 women’s single sculls, marking another important stage in her sporting career, which has witnessed remarkable development in recent years. 🌟🚣♀️
Malak’s story carries an inspiring human and sporting dimension. She began swimming at the age of four as a form of aquatic therapy before gradually developing into a successful athlete who has won 14 gold medals and four silver medals at the local and Arab levels.
After switching to Paralympic rowing around three years ago, Malak quickly established herself internationally, winning two silver medals at the 2026 French International Para Rowing Championships.

🧑🏫 Technical Experience Supports the Paralympic Team
The Paralympic rowing team is technically led by coach Saher Refaat Mohamed, who has extensive experience in rowing coaching, physical preparation and the development of elite-level athletes.
Refaat has more than 25 years of experience, including 14 years with the Qatar Police Sports Federation, where he contributed to establishing several sports teams. His coaching approach is based on scientific methods, performance measurement and detailed evaluation.
The head coach also holds international certificates and diplomas in training-load planning and sports nutrition, in addition to pursuing a master’s degree at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, strengthening the scientific aspect of the athletes’ preparation. 📊💪
🌍 Egyptian Presence in the Organization of the World Championships
Egypt’s participation in Amsterdam is not limited to the competitions themselves, as coach Walid Mahmoud Abdelmonem, head of the Protocol and Partnerships Committee at the Egyptian Rowing Federation, will also accompany the delegation.
