European Offers Tempt Abdel-Meguid as Defender Refuses to Renew Contract with Zamalek
Abdel-Meguid refuses to renew his contract, requests official offers from European clubs, and Zamalek insists on $6 million.
Broadcaster Amir Hisham reported that full-back Hossam Abdel-Meguid has not yet agreed to renew his contract with Zamalek, noting that the player informed the club’s management that he has received professional offers from foreign clubs.
Speaking on air, Hisham explained that Zamalek’s management asked Abdel-Meguid to submit all official offers he receives from international teams for proper evaluation and to assess the feasibility of his transfer abroad in accordance with club procedures.
Hisham added that Zamalek has set a price tag of $6 million for Abdel-Meguid’s departure—an amount some observers consider “unrealistic,” aimed at protecting the club’s interests.
He also revealed that Swiss club FC Basel and Russia’s CSKA Moscow have submitted offers worth no more than $1.5 million, which Zamalek is expected to reject outright.
As an alternative path, Hisham noted that the club is considering loaning Abdel-Meguid out for one season to a foreign club, with an extension clause allowing for an additional season if he returns to Zamalek. This would preserve the club’s financial and technical rights while giving the player an opportunity to experience football abroad.
Abdel-Meguid’s current contract with Zamalek runs until the end of the 2026–2027 season, and the management is reviewing the possibility of amending its terms to extend his stay with the team.
