🧤 Khaled Gadallah Discusses Al Ahly’s Goalkeeping Situation
Former Al Ahly star Khaled Gadallah has discussed the goalkeeping situation at both Al Ahly and the Egypt national team, expressing his view that Mostafa Shobeir is currently the first-choice goalkeeper while emphasizing that this does not diminish Mohamed El Shenawy or his achievements over the years.
Speaking on the “Number One” program presented by Mohamed Shabana on CBC, Gadallah said: “Mostafa Shobeir is currently the starting goalkeeper for Egypt and Al Ahly. That does not diminish Mohamed El Shenawy. This is the way of football, and he has given Al Ahly and Egypt a lot.”
The former Al Ahly player described the transition between goalkeepers as a natural part of football while highlighting El Shenawy’s contribution to the club and national team.
🏆 El Shenawy Renewal Could Represent Recognition
Gadallah also commented on Mohamed El Shenawy’s contract renewal, considering a potential one-year extension as a form of recognition for the goalkeeper’s contribution.
He said: “I believe Al Ahly’s offer to renew Mohamed El Shenawy’s contract for one season is a form of recognition for him. It is an opportunity for the player, and he should renew and later become part of the club’s administrative structure.”
Gadallah also noted that Al Ahly could eventually need another goalkeeper alongside Mostafa Shobeir and Hamza Alaa once El Shenawy retires.
🔴 Gadallah Rates Al Ahly’s Performances Under Ammouta
The former Al Ahly star also assessed the team’s performances under Hussein Ammouta, giving the current level 6 out of 10.
He said: “I give Al Ahly 6 out of 10 for their performances with Ammouta. The performance should be better than this, and I hope there is an improvement.”
Gadallah believes the coaching staff still needs to develop a stronger understanding of the squad and improve the way players are assessed and deployed.
He added: “I hope the level improves and the coach reaches a good assessment of the players’ positions and his reading of matches. He was late in doing that.”
⚙️ Match Reading and Player Deployment Need Improvement
Gadallah pointed to several areas that he believes Ammouta needs to improve, particularly the management of matches once they are underway.
He said: “There are things Ammouta needs to correct, such as reading matches, making substitutions and using players in certain positions.”
His comments also focused on the way some of Al Ahly’s existing players are being utilized, including Hussein El Shahat.
⭐ Gadallah Calls for Greater Use of Hussein El Shahat
Gadallah also questioned the extent to which El Shahat’s qualities have been utilized under Ammouta so far, emphasizing that the player can offer additional attacking solutions.
He said: “Ammouta has not yet explored Hussein El Shahat’s abilities. He is very influential and has solutions that are not available in Al Ahly’s other wingers.”
The former Al Ahly player believes greater use of El Shahat could give the team more attacking options during upcoming matches.
🛡️ Mohamed Abdelmonem and Hossam Abdelmaguid Discussed
Gadallah also discussed possible defensive reinforcements for Al Ahly, pointing to Mohamed Abdelmonem and Hossam Abdelmaguid as players who could strengthen the defense.
He said: “If there is an opportunity to bring Mohamed Abdelmonem back, that would be good for strengthening Al Ahly. If Hossam Abdelmaguid is available, he would add to the defense because he is a talented defender and still young.”
His comments came while discussing potential defensive needs and options that could strengthen the squad in the coming period.
🏆 Gadallah Looks Ahead to the Al Ahly-Zamalek Derby
Gadallah concluded by discussing the upcoming Al Ahly-Zamalek derby, expecting a competitive match on the pitch.
He said: “The derby will be a battle between the two teams on the pitch. Al Ahly’s circumstances are better than Zamalek’s, but the White Castle are progressing well in the league.”
Gadallah therefore views Al Ahly as entering the derby in better circumstances according to his assessment, while also acknowledging Zamalek’s positive league form and the competitive nature of the fixture.
