⭐ Yamal.. The Latest Young Star to Break the Age Barrier
Lamine Yamal has become one of the clearest modern examples of Barcelona’s policy of giving young talents opportunities with the first team.
The Spanish star currently tops the list of the youngest players to appear for Barcelona and Real Madrid in the 21st century, having made his senior debut before turning 16 and moving ahead of several youngsters who later established themselves in European football.
At the same time, English prospect JJ Gabriel, a Manchester United player, has attracted attention amid reports linking him with interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Reports have suggested that Gabriel has told Manchester United of his desire to leave and declined to take part in first-team training during the current week, despite being included in the squad for the Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton.
The Brighton match could have given him an opportunity to become one of Manchester United’s youngest-ever first-team players, but the latest developments have once again raised questions about his future.
Should Gabriel move to Spain, he would find two clubs with long histories of giving opportunities to very young players.

1️⃣ Lamine Yamal.. 15 Years, 9 Months and 16 Days
Lamine Yamal tops the list after making his Barcelona first-team debut at 15 years, 9 months and 16 days.
His senior debut came in April 2023 when Xavi Hernandez brought him on as a substitute in the 83rd minute against Real Betis in a match Barcelona won 4-0.
Yamal quickly developed from a highly rated prospect into one of the most prominent young players in world football, showing that his early debut was far more than a one-off opportunity.
His international debut also followed quickly, with Yamal representing Spain’s senior national team less than four months after his first appearance for Barcelona.
2️⃣ Martin Odegaard.. 16 Years, 5 Months and 6 Days
Norwegian midfielder Martin Odegaard is second on the list and is the only Real Madrid player included among the 10 youngest players.
Odegaard had already made his senior debut for Stromsgodset in Norway at the age of 15 years and three months before joining Real Madrid in January 2015.
He made his first appearance for the Spanish giants near the end of the 2014-15 season, coming on as a substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo against Getafe in a 7-3 victory.
Despite his early appearance, Odegaard had to wait until November 2016 to make his first start for Real Madrid, around 679 days after joining the club.
3️⃣ Toni Fernandez.. 16 Years, 5 Months and 20 Days
Toni Fernandez developed at Barcelona’s La Masia academy after joining the club from Espanyol when he was 10 years old.
The young forward made his first-team debut in January 2025 against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey before making another appearance for the Catalan side.
He later joined Venezia on the final day of the summer transfer window, with Barcelona retaining a buy-back option.
4️⃣ Ansu Fati.. 16 Years, 9 Months and 25 Days
Ansu Fati ranks fourth after making his Barcelona debut against Real Betis in August 2019 at 16 years, 9 months and 25 days.
At the time, Fati became the second-youngest player in Barcelona’s history to appear for the first team, surpassing the previous mark held by Vicenc Martinez.
Expectations around Fati rose quickly, particularly after he inherited the No. 10 shirt following Lionel Messi’s departure.
However, a series of injuries, most notably a knee problem, affected his development. He subsequently spent loan spells with Brighton and Monaco.

Just 10 days later, he made his senior debut for Spain, continuing an exceptionally rapid rise.

Bojan Krkic entered Barcelona’s list of youngest players after making his first-team debut at 17 years and 19 days, breaking the previous record held by Lionel Messi.
His debut came against Osasuna in a match that finished goalless, amid major expectations following his performances for Barcelona’s youth teams.
However, early comparisons with Messi brought considerable pressure. Krkic spent four seasons with Barcelona before moving on to clubs including Roma, Milan, Ajax and Stoke City.
He retired from professional football at the age of 32 and later returned to Barcelona as a mentor within the La Masia academy.
7️⃣ Gavi.. 17 Years and 24 Days
Gavi made his first-team debut for Barcelona at the age of 17 years and 24 days, putting him seventh on the list.
His first appearance came against Getafe in 2021, making him Barcelona’s fourth-youngest first-team player at that time.
His progress also extended to the international level, where he soon broke a historic record by becoming the youngest player to appear for Spain’s senior national team.
8️⃣ Marc Muniesa.. 17 Years, 1 Month and 26 Days
Marc Muniesa made his Barcelona debut in May 2009 against Osasuna.
His first-team appearance contained a remarkable twist, as the young defender received a red card in the same match, which Barcelona lost 1-0.
The appearance came after Barcelona had already secured the La Liga title, but Muniesa’s first-team career did not develop as expected, partly because of injuries.
He left Barcelona on a free transfer in 2013, later joining Stoke City and other clubs before eventually continuing his career with Al Shahaniya in Qatar.
