⚽ Ghanaian officials assigned to Pyramids clash
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed a Ghanaian refereeing team to officiate the highly anticipated meeting between South Sudan’s El Merriekh Bentiu and Egyptian side Pyramids FC in the second preliminary round of the 2026-27 CAF Champions League.
According to the announced assignment, Pyramids will travel to South Sudan for the first leg on October 16, with the Egyptian side aiming to secure a positive result away from home before the return fixture in Cairo.
CAF’s official draw placed El Merriekh Bentiu and Pyramids in the same second preliminary-round tie after both sides progressed through the opening stage of the competition.
🇬🇭 Charles Bulu to referee the match
Ghanaian referee Charles Bulu will take charge of the match as the main referee, assisted by Abringah Akujiri as first assistant and Richard Nartey as second assistant.
Julian Nunoo has been appointed as the fourth official.
The match will also have officials responsible for monitoring the fixture, with Yacoub Ali of Djibouti serving as match commissioner and Lydia Adibe of Ethiopia assigned to monitor the refereeing team.
🏆 Pyramids look for a positive away result
Pyramids will be aiming to produce a strong performance in the first leg, particularly because the opening match will be played away from home in South Sudan.
A positive result in the first leg could give the Egyptian side a significant advantage ahead of the return match in Cairo, making the opening fixture an important part of the qualification battle.
The team will need to remain focused throughout the match while dealing with the conditions surrounding an away continental fixture.
🔥 A crucial first leg before the Cairo return
The second leg is scheduled for October 24 in Cairo, with CAF setting October 16-18 as the window for first-leg matches in the second preliminary round and October 23-25 for the return fixtures.
Playing the second leg at home gives Pyramids the opportunity to complete the tie in front of their supporters, but the immediate priority will be securing a favorable result in the opening encounter.
📢 Another African test for Pyramids
Pyramids continue their continental campaign as one of Egypt’s representatives in the CAF Champions League, with the club looking to progress to the group stage.
Attention will now turn toward the first-leg meeting in South Sudan, with the performance of both Pyramids and the Ghanaian refereeing team set to play a key role in the opening chapter of the tie.
