Veteran coach Glen “Doc” Rivers, the former head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, has been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as part of a nine-member class honored during a ceremony in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Rivers was joined among the honorees by former Phoenix Suns star Amar’e Stoudemire, referee Joey Crawford, and coaches Mike D’Antoni and Mark Few.
The ceremony also honored three of the most prominent figures in women’s basketball: Candace Parker, Elena Delle Donne and Chamique Holdsclaw.
The 1996 United States Olympic women’s basketball team, which won the gold medal without suffering a defeat, was also honored.
Glen Rivers’ Outstanding NBA Coaching Career
Glen Rivers has enjoyed a remarkable coaching career in the NBA, recording 1,194 wins and 866 losses over 27 seasons with the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks.
Rivers won his only NBA championship in 2008, when he guided the Boston Celtics to the league title.
He also won the NBA Coach of the Year award in 2000 during his time with the Orlando Magic.
Speaking during the Hall of Fame ceremony, Rivers said: “I never dreamed I’d become a coach or be good at this profession,” emphasizing that his induction represented a tribute to everyone who supported him throughout his career.
Amar’e Stoudemire Joins the Hall of Fame
Former Phoenix Suns star Amar’e Stoudemire was also inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Stoudemire played 14 seasons in the NBA, earning six All-Star selections and winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2003.
He finished his career averaging 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and became one of the key players of the Phoenix Suns’ high-powered offensive era.
The Suns became famous for their “Seven Seconds or Less” style under coach Mike D’Antoni.
Mike D’Antoni Among the Honorees
Mike D’Antoni was also inducted into the Hall of Fame after recording 672 NBA victories during his coaching career.
D’Antoni coached several teams, most notably the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets and New York Knicks.
He won the NBA Coach of the Year award twice, in 2005 and 2017.
D’Antoni is widely recognized for his influence on modern offensive basketball, particularly during his successful tenure with the Phoenix Suns.
Joey Crawford and Mark Few Also Honored
The ceremony also honored referee Joey Crawford, who officiated NBA games for 39 seasons between 1977 and 2016, establishing one of the longest careers in league officiating history.
Coach Mark Few was also recognized for his major contributions to American college basketball.
The latest Hall of Fame ceremony celebrated a diverse group of basketball figures whose careers have left a lasting impact on the sport across coaching, officiating, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.
