El Hammamy secured her place in the semifinals after advancing against compatriot Nouran Gohar, who was forced to withdraw because of injury.

In the men’s competition, Egyptian world No. 1 Mostafa Assal will meet England’s Marwan ElShorbagy, ranked seventh in the world, in a highly anticipated semifinal.
Assal reached the last four after defeating fellow Egyptian Ali Abou Eleinen 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
ElShorbagy, meanwhile, secured his semifinal place after overcoming French player Gregoire Marche in a five-game battle, winning 3-2.

El Sherbiny suffered a 1-3 defeat against Arnold, who is ranked 25th in the world, bringing the Egyptian player’s campaign to an early end.

The tournament also features an all-Egyptian meeting between Amina Orfi and Fayrouz Aboelkheir, underlining the depth of Egyptian representation in the women’s competition.
