Harry Kane, the England and Bayern Munich striker, emphasized that his hopes of winning the Ballon d’Or depend on the number of major titles he can secure this season, despite his individual brilliance and impressive scoring pace.
The 32-year-old is enjoying the best season of his career, scoring 23 goals in 17 matches for Bayern Munich, who remain unbeaten at the top of the Bundesliga and are also performing strongly in the UEFA Champions League.
Kane has also scored three goals in four appearances for the England national team, including two goals in a 5-0 win over Latvia in October, securing England’s qualification for the next World Cup.
Asked about his chances of competing for the Ballon d’Or, Kane said:
"I can score 100 goals this season, but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, it’s unlikely I will win the Ballon d’Or." He added: "The same applies to Erling Haaland and any other player—you have to win those major titles."
He continued: "We are in excellent form at Bayern Munich, which may boost my chances, and the same goes for England. I hope, if things go well for me with club and country, I will definitely be among the contenders for a prize like the Ballon d’Or."
Kane also highlighted that representing your country is the greatest honor, and building a winning culture requires all players to contribute, with every moment on the pitch being important. He added: "We are heading in the right direction, on and off the field. As you see in this camp, Mark Guehi had a minor injury but still wanted to be with the group, the meetings, and learning from what we are doing. I truly believe the team is in a very good place as the new year begins."
