هيرفي رينارد

French coach Hervé Renard has returned to the atmosphere of the 2026 World Cup in a dramatic scenario, after taking charge of the Tunisian national team, replacing his compatriot Sabri Lamouchi, who paid the price for a heavy 5–0 defeat to Sweden in the opening round of Group Six.

A surprise appointment at a critical moment

The Tunisian Football Federation appointed Renard under exceptional circumstances, agreeing that he would lead the team for only two matches against Japan and the Netherlands, for €200,000—€100,000 per match.

If he succeeds in pulling the team out of its difficult situation and securing qualification to the next round, negotiations will be opened for a new contract to continue the mission.

Immediate start and urgent preparations

The 57-year-old Renard immediately began preparations for the decisive fixtures on the 21st and 26th of the month, in an attempt to revive Tunisia’s hopes, as the team sits at the bottom of the group after a disappointing start.

End of Sabri Lamouchi’s spell with Tunisia

On the other hand, Sabri Lamouchi’s tenure ended quickly after just five matches, in which he recorded:

  • One win against Haiti (1–0)
  • A goalless draw with Canada
  • Three consecutive defeats against Austria, Belgium, and Sweden

Shocking statistics for Tunisia

The results revealed a significant decline in performance, with Tunisia scoring only two goals while conceding 11.

The team also conceded 10 goals in its last two matches alone—five against Belgium in a preparatory friendly, and five more against Sweden in its World Cup opener.

Financial compensation despite dismissal

Despite the early termination of his role, Sabri Lamouchi received financial compensation equivalent to three months’ salary, according to the agreement between both parties.
