In a bold and emotionally charged interview, former Egypt national team star Gamal Abdel Hamid revealed the details of his departure from Al Ahly Club. Speaking on the show "Man to Man" with host Omar Rabie Yassin, Abdel Hamid shared candid insights about his time with Al Ahly, his deep-rooted love for Zamalek, and how he went from a celebrated player to someone "thrown out on the street," as he described.

"I gave everything to Al Ahly… and in the end, they kicked me out"

He began his story by saying:

"I was the top scorer, won eight titles with Al Ahly, and was named the best player in Egypt… then suddenly, I was thrown out without even a thank you."

His words reflect the deep sense of injustice he felt, believing that what he gave to the club was not matched by how he was treated—especially after the injury that changed the course of his career.

Loyalty can’t be bought: "I love Zamalek… and Al Ahly wronged me"

Despite his years at Al Ahly, Abdel Hamid openly declared his love for Zamalek:

"I adore Zamalek. I could never love Al Ahly—they abandoned me when I had nothing to eat. I was loyal to them, and they let me down."

He emphasized that he never felt true belonging except at Zamalek, which gave him the space to restart and prove he was still a star with more to offer.

Facing slander: "They called me names and insulted me"

He continued:

"After I left Al Ahly, people said all kinds of things about me. Some called me a womanizer or said I was awful. Others even said, ‘We’ll meet in the afterlife!’ But I’ll get my justice."

This reflects the emotional and psychological pressure he faced after leaving the club, despite his history and achievements.

Bitter gratitude: "Thanks to Al Ahly… they pushed me to shine at Zamalek"

Despite everything, Abdel Hamid sent a unique message of thanks to Al Ahly, saying their rejection was what allowed him to thrive elsewhere:

"I thank Al Ahly for letting me go. It gave me the chance to regroup and start fresh with Zamalek, where I truly shined again."

He added that joining Zamalek was more than just a sports opportunity—it was a personal turning point that restored his dignity and self-confidence.

A legend remembered despite the pain

Gamal Abdel Hamid wasn’t just a player—he was one of Egypt’s football icons in the 1980s and captain of the national team at the 1990 World Cup. His recent remarks highlight how even greats can face bitter endings at big clubs—players who deserved to be honored, not forgotten.
