Kazakhstan Postpones Belgium’s Qualification with 1-1 Draw
Kazakhstan held Belgium to a 1-1 draw in the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, delaying the Red Devils’ direct qualification.
In Group 10 of the European qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Kazakhstan and Belgium played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Dastan Bayev opened the scoring for Kazakhstan in the 9th minute, before Hans Vanaken equalized for Belgium in the 48th minute.
With this result, Belgium remains top of the group with 15 points from 4 wins and 3 draws, while Kazakhstan is fourth with 8 points. Belgium will need a win in their next match to secure direct qualification for the World Cup 2026 after the gap narrowed to just two points with group runner-up North Macedonia.
Kevin De Bruyne leads Belgium’s goal-scoring chart in the qualifiers with 6 goals, followed by Jeremy Doku and Youri Tielemans with 3 goals each.
The European qualifiers feature 12 groups, with the winner of each group qualifying directly for the World Cup. The remaining 4 spots will be determined in playoffs in March 2026, featuring 16 teams including the 12 group runners-up and the top 4 teams from the 2024-2025 UEFA Nations League not yet qualified.
