📢 Suárez Pays Tribute to Messi
Uruguay star Luis Suárez has sent an emotional message to his close friend Lionel Messi following the end of the Argentine captain’s international career.
Suárez shared his message on Instagram, celebrating Messi’s achievements with Argentina and praising the legacy he leaves behind after more than two decades representing the national team.
⭐ “You Made Football History”
Suárez praised Messi for writing his name into the history of football, not only in South America but around the world.
The Inter Miami forward also highlighted qualities beyond Messi’s extraordinary ability, pointing to his respect for opponents and the way he has conducted himself throughout his career.
For Suárez, Messi represents much more than an exceptional footballer. He described his longtime friend as an example on and off the pitch, as a teammate, friend and person.
🏆 A Historic Argentina Career
Suárez’s message came after Messi played his final match for Argentina against Benin at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.
Argentina won the farewell match 3-0, with more than 85,000 fans attending to celebrate one of the greatest players in the country’s history.
The match brought the curtain down on Messi’s more than 21-year international career, with the 39-year-old finishing with 208 appearances and 126 goals for Argentina.
🇦🇷 Messi Leaves With an Extraordinary Legacy
Messi ends his Argentina career with a collection of major international honours, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the 2021 and 2024 Copa América titles, and the 2022 Finalissima.
He also leaves the national team as Argentina’s all-time leading scorer and most-capped player, cementing his place among the greatest international footballers of all time.
🤝 From Barcelona to Inter Miami
The relationship between Messi and Suárez goes far beyond international football.
Their close friendship developed during their time together at Barcelona, where they formed part of one of the most successful attacking units in European football.
The partnership was later renewed in the United States at Inter Miami, giving the two friends another opportunity to share the pitch during the final stages of their careers.
🤍 “Thank You for Everything”
Suárez concluded his message by thanking Messi for everything they experienced together and expressing his gratitude for having shared such an important era with one of football’s greatest figures.
Messi, meanwhile, closed his Argentina chapter in emotional fashion at the Monumental, describing representing his country as one of the greatest experiences of his life.
