The match ended 1-1 at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE, with Egypt winning the penalty shootout to secure third place in the Al Ain friendly tournament.
The first goal for Cape Verde came from Garry Rodrigues in the 7th minute via a penalty caused by Mohamed Hany, before Omar Marmoush equalized for Egypt in the 57th minute with a brilliant assist from Mohamed Hamdy.
In the second half, coach Hossam Hassan made several substitutions, including Mohamed Shata and Osama Faisal replacing Nabil Emad “Donga” and Mahmoud Saber, and later Zlaka and Salah Mohsen joined the field.
Referee Rawda Al-Mansouri disallowed a goal for Egypt scored by Osama Faisal in the 66th minute, but El-Shenawy made several key saves before being substituted for Mustafa Shobier.
In the penalty shootout, Shobier blocked multiple attempts from Cape Verde, securing third place for Egypt.
Egypt’s starting lineup included Mohamed El-Shenawy in goal, defenders Rami Rabia, Mohamed Hamdy, Mohamed Hany, and Ahmed Fattouh, midfielders Nabil Emad Donga, Marwan Atiya, Mahmoud Saber, and forwards Omar Marmoush, Taher Mohamed Taher, and Mostafa Mohamed.
Egypt will face Nigeria in a friendly on December 14 at Cairo Stadium as part of their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Egypt is drawn in Group B alongside Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Angola.
