Four Egyptian players advanced to the last 16 at the China Open Squash Championship, held from November 11 to 16, with prize money of $100,000 for men and the same for women, placing it in the gold-tier category.
Preliminary round results for Egyptians were as follows:
Kareem El-Torky defeated Blasz Varkaz 3-0, with scores 11-8, 11-9, 11-4.
Kenzy Ayman defeated Cindy Merlo 3-1, with scores 11-9, 6-11, 11-4, 11-8.
Mohamed Zakaria beat Henry Leung 3-0, scores 11-3, 11-2, 11-7.
Mohamed Abouelghar defeated Vilfan 3-0, scores 11-8, 14-12, 11-6.
Some Egyptian players faced defeats: Menha Hamed lost to Anahat Singh 3-0, Nadine Shaheen lost to Holly Nutton 3-1, and Kareem El-Hammamy lost to Sebastien Bonmalais 3-1.
The tournament featured 14 Egyptian participants, 7 men: Mostafa Asal (world no.1), Ali Abu Einin, Mohamed Abouelghar, Mazen Hesham, Mohamed Zakaria, Youssef Ibrahim, and Kareem El-Hammamy; and 7 women: Hania El-Hammamy (world no.2), Sana Ibrahim, Menha Hamed, Kenzy Ayman, Amina Arfi, Nadine Shaheen, and Salma Hany.
Meanwhile, Egyptian champion Nouran Gohar, world no.1 in women’s squash, announced the end of her season as she prepares for her first child, due to the intense physical demands of professional squash. 🏆🇪🇬
