⚽ Pjanic backs Cristiano Ronaldo
Former Bosnia and Juventus and Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic has spoken about the controversy surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal, insisting that the veteran forward deserves an appropriate farewell in recognition of everything he has contributed to the national team.
Pjanic’s comments come amid growing attention surrounding Ronaldo after he left Portugal’s training camp during the latest international break following tensions surrounding his role in the team and head coach Jorge Jesus’ decision not to start him in a Nations League fixture.
The former midfielder said Ronaldo deserves a farewell that reflects his status and remarkable international career, describing the Portuguese captain as one of the greatest players in football history.
🔥 Praise for Ronaldo’s mentality
Pjanic also highlighted another aspect of Ronaldo’s career: his exceptional mental strength.
The Bosnian former midfielder said he had rarely, if ever, seen another player demonstrate the same level of mental toughness and ability to handle pressure.
In his view, Ronaldo possesses the personality required to overcome the current controversy despite the intense speculation surrounding his future with Portugal.
📢 How did the Ronaldo-Jesus controversy begin?
The controversy escalated after Ronaldo remained on the bench for Portugal’s Nations League victory over Norway, before Jorge Jesus confirmed that the forward would again not start against Denmark.
Following the coach’s press conference, Ronaldo announced on Instagram that he had decided to leave the national team camp after speaking with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.
The Portugal captain did not reveal the full reasons behind his decision but said that he would explain the truth behind his departure at the appropriate time.
Ronaldo subsequently left the national team camp ahead of Portugal’s match against Denmark, creating further uncertainty over his international future.
🤝 Portuguese FA attempts to resolve the dispute
The Portuguese Football Federation has since launched fresh efforts to ease the situation and bring Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus back to the negotiating table.
Portuguese reports indicate that Pedro Proença is seeking another meeting involving Ronaldo and Jesus after the international commitments, with the goal of reducing tensions and finding a way forward.
Jesus has reportedly agreed to the proposed meeting, while the federation is still waiting for Ronaldo’s response.
Proença had already intervened during the earlier stages of the dispute and met with both Ronaldo and Jesus in an effort to calm the situation, but Ronaldo’s subsequent departure from camp brought the controversy back into the spotlight.
🏆 Could this become Ronaldo’s final farewell?
Questions over Ronaldo’s international future continue to grow, particularly after the player left the door open regarding the reasons behind his decision to depart the squad.
There are growing calls for any end to Ronaldo’s Portugal career to be handled in a way that reflects his enormous contribution to the national team. He remains Portugal’s record appearance holder and all-time leading scorer, making any decision about his future especially significant.
With the federation trying to mediate, Jorge Jesus maintaining his authority over technical decisions and Ronaldo yet to reveal his final position, the veteran captain’s future remains one of the biggest stories surrounding Portuguese football.
