In comments reported by Mundo Deportivo from his interview with The Guardian, King said: “I wasn’t enjoying the environment anymore. I felt bored a lot of the time and never truly had the passion others had for football. I loved the game, but I always felt I could offer more outside of it.”
He also described his experience training with Pep Guardiola’s first team: “It wasn’t enjoyable at all. We would spend 60 minutes chasing the ball like dogs 🏃♂️⚽, and when you try to press players like De Bruyne, Foden, or Gundogan, you realize you can’t get anywhere near them. The desire to leave outweighed the excitement.”
Speaking about his future, he added: “Yes, you’ll earn good money, but will you enjoy it? I wasn’t sure. And even if you play for 10 or 15 years… then what?”
